So international travel isn’t the easiest right now. Although things are ever-changing, booking a holiday no longer invokes the same relaxing get-away energy they used to pre-restrictions.

So rather than booking in hesitation, rescheduling when your flight gets cancelled and continually checking what traffic light colour your intended destination is under, we at AndMunch are joining the staycationers & exploring our wonderful Isle. Meaning we can still enjoy a little break, but with less uncertainty & arguably a better payoff.

A UK staycation isn’t just better in terms of practicality. There are so many class locations to visit, activities to enjoy, businesses to support and experiences to have right here on home soil – so we are gladly adopting the staycation bug and happily forgoing an international trip (at least for now).

Welcome to our first AndMunch street food staycation guide. Through August we will take a popular UK destination and make a street food guide for that location. A carefully curated checklist of some of our must-try street food eats.

London

Up first, possibly a little predictable, is England’s capital: London.

We thought this was a great place to start as it’s often a trip many of us take to catch up with friends that live down south or to get back to a bustling city atmosphere for a fun-filled weekend.

With so many incredible dining options in London it’s often overwhelming deciding where to eat. Street food venues are a great option when you’re unsure where to munch. Why? They are relatively an accessible price point compared to some of the more fine dining options in London. They have a great atmosphere for a fun time out with friends, with the bonus that everyone’s palette can be catered for. Most importantly, you’re often supporting really great independent businesses that are totally bossing their culinary game.

Check out our street food guide for London below!

Seven Dials Market

First up we have an essential listing for any street food guide to London: Seven Dials Market, one of the Industry legends Kerb’s locations.

Set over multiple floors, Seven Dials Market is a great place to go with a group of friends and spend a fun evening bouncing around the beautiful glass-roofed venue. Jam Packed with independent traders, this venue has 2 bars and 11 incredible micro restaurants! Lip-smacking vegan Mexican food served by Club Mexicana. New York-style pizza by the slice from Bad Boy Pizza Society. And so much more.

Excitingly, coming up on the 12th Bad Boy Pizza Society is doing a link-up with Bong Bongs Hackney. They will be to serving a limited edition special pizza born out of the best each caterer has to offer. £5 from every special sold will get donated to Young Camden Foundation charity – an incredible organisation that’s been working tirelessly to end poverty. But be quick, as they are only doing this until limited-edition pizza until the 22nd of August!

Only Jerkin’

Only Jerkin’ is passionate about celebrating the spirit of the Caribbean through mouth-watering flavours, music and a well-rounded experience.

Their food is built on traditional family recipes and takes inspiration from the owners’ childhood experiences in the kitchen. Food always played an important role in their family life. So they have taken those early influences and inserted them straight into their street food offering.

They marinate all of their chicken for 48 hours to ensure it’s super tender and tasty. The chicken is triple dipped in seasoned flour and their signature batters; ginger beer or cream soda. Once fried expect some serious flavour and crunch!

If that wasn’t enough, the Only Jerking Team also have a selection of homemade sauces including their famous jerk gravy, jerk seasoned skin-on fries and creamy slaw…. And veggie fried cauliflower for their non-meat-eating friends!

Location and Opening time: You can visit the Only Jerkin’s kiosk Monday to Sunday in Camden Market. You can also catch them regularly across London – keep an eye out on our social channels for their latest goings-on. (a little insider tip, these guys also have stall in Birmingham’s incredible Digbeth Dining Club, so Brummie pals, be sure to head down and catch these guys there)!
